Introducing The Healthy Work Environment Network

Welcome to the first post of the Healthy Work Environment Network blog.

The purpose of this blog, and indeed, the mission of The Healthy Work Environment Network, is to raise awareness of all of the issues facing the American workers in the American workplace. Through this network, which will consist of this blog, webcasts/podcasts, social media posts, and more, our goal is to help all organizations develop and foster a positive work environment, which will in turn help improve our society - and ultimately, the world.

HWEN is founded upon the basic principles of industrial/organizational(I/O) psychology, a field of psychology which addresses psychological concepts and principles in the work world and which is a relatively underrepresented field of behavioral science. Major elements of I/O psychology include occupational health (including physical and mental well-being), teams and leadership, personnel decision-making, motivation and attitudes, and training, development, and performance measurement. At HWEN, we will look at current events, trends, and case studies and analyze them from the perspective of the I/O psychologist. There will not always be a right or wrong answer to every issue, but our goal is to raise awareness of these issues so that the right decisions can be made by organizations across the country.

HWEN will provide fresh content on this blog two to three times per week, and will launch a podcast and/or YouTube talk show in the near future. If you have any thoughts, comments, or suggestions, drop them in the comments below or leave us an e-mail message using the contact form at the bottom of the page (no solicitations!).

We have only one rule for comments: PLEASE be respectful. Our mission is to foster a positive culture in the workplace and this blog will need to set a good example. Negative, inflammatory, or derogatory remarks will be deleted and users may risk being banned from further comments. It is OK to disagree with us if you have valid points, but please be civil about it. That's all we ask.

Thanks, and be healthy!
